Sector Policing


The Linden police, the Linden CPF and ADT security have started an initiative to educate communities about sector policing. This initiative kicked off in sector 2, which is comprised of Franklin Roosevelt Park, Montrose and Risidale. These areas were not well informed about sector policing, did not have Residence Associations in place and were not part of any database regarding security issues. The sector 2 initiative took to the streets to hand out a batch of 5000 flyers, containing information regarding sector policing. The flyers have been sponsored by ADT. This is the first in a series of events promoting this initiative to various communities.

The Linden CPF  held its AGM of 2011 on the 14th of June 2011.

The guest speaker was Steve Hamilton who spoke on the topic…..DRUGS IN OUR SCHOOLS……. Are we and our children prepared ???

 

 

 

Crime prevention starts with you- Former top cop Brigadier Piet Byleveld

Former top cop Brigadier Piet Byleveld addressed residents in Linden about crime prevention in suburbs at this year's first Community Policing Forum (CPF) meeting last week.
Byleveld retired last year after 40 years of police service.
"Everyone complains about the crime rate and the general perception is police don't do enough. However, crime prevention lies in the hands of every individual," he said.
Byleveld urged residents to become involved and assist police in the fight against crime, adding that communication was vital.
"National statistics show more than 50 percent of all crimes are committed in Gauteng. If we make Gauteng safer, we are making South Africa safer."

Linden SAPS Sector 3 conducts 72 Hour Operation


From Thursday, December 2, 2010 through to Saturday, December 4, 2010 members of the Linden SAPS, ADT, Piranha, Trojan, the Linden CPF, Linden CPF Sector 3 Sub Forum as well as community members came together to ensure a successful 72 hour special crime operation in Sector 3.

Constant patrols were done in all streets, places of entertainment, shopping centre’s and public open spaces resulting in a decrease of crime during this period in the Sector 3 - suburbs which include but not limited to Moret, Ruiterhof, Fontainebleau, Robinhills etc.

Jenny Jooste, CPF Sector 3 Sub Forum Chair comments, “It is with thanks to the dedicated members of the Linden SAPS, Sector Managers and security companies that Sector 3 had a successful joint operation which resulted in many arrests and increased visibility in the Sector.”

Extended CCF Meeting


Linden SAPS hosts weekly Extended Crime Combating Forum (CCF) meetings where all community/security role-players are invited to discuss crime incidents, trends and modus operandi’s in their suburbs/places of work or recreation. The meeting is well represented and has grown from around 10 attendees in 2004 to over 30 at present.

At a meeting held 30 September 2010 the Linden SAPS Management handed over certificates of appreciation to all role-players that attend and who have made a valuable contribution to the fight against crime in the Linden SAPS precinct.

Police making progress in the battle against crime


The South Africa Police Service (SAPS) released the 2009/2010 crime statistics at a press conference held at the Sheraton Hotel in Pretoria 9 September 2010.

In the period of 2009/2010 a total of 2 121 887 cases were registered. About 31, 9% were contact crimes, property related crimes were 26,1%, 25,5% were other serious crimes, 10% and 6,5% were contact crimes and the crimes detected as a result of the police action.

The 2009/2010 statistics and ratios had been compared to the figures recorded during 2003/2004 and the fiscal year 2008/2009. The SAPS made a significant success in combating contact crime and for the first time since 1995/1996 the murder declined by 50% from 26 877 to 16 834 in the cases reported between 1995/1996 and 2009/2010.

Street committees can make a significant impact on the security of streets in our precinct. The CPF has estimated that there are almost 200 street coordinators in the greater Linden Precinct. Many of these can do a lot more than keep a contact list of resident names and phone numbers.
